Scorecraft Composer Academy sets the new standard for real world composer training. The latest techniques and a powerful score to picture program that is designed to get our students into the field after graduation. This is real world composing training that separates our students from the average college music student and leaves them with a working plan to move forward instead of hoping something will happen.
You will be learning and receiving bi-weekly feedback with industry veteran composers. From 20th century harmony, midi mock-ups, and hybrid trailer and game scoring, we will train you in a way universities don’t do. You will dive into a world of melodies, harmony, technology, and emotions as we guide you through the core of film and digital media composing. This program gives you exclusive and unique access to their creative process. They will teach you their film composition techniques, how they work, and how they create and select the piece to complement and give a touch of life to each scene. You will learn what inspires them, how they create harmony and melody, and how they use notes and chords, so you can develop the necessary skills and abilities that will allow you to capture your inspiration and captivate the audience.
How to create harmony that fits the emotion and can change on a dime. Getting away from major and minor modes and learning to write with shapes, color, density, and. Something not even taught in universities.
Developed by Michael Whittaker after 30 years of score to picture projects. The STATE harmonic scoring system finally gives the new composer a clear path to understanding how to create music and harmony that reflects a moment by moment analysis of the current emotion on screen. The state system is incredibly advanced and allows composers to easily create sophisticated harmony outside “key and mode” normally offered by traditional universities. The great thing is that it is not hard to learn and assimilate. After practice, composers scores will become much more connected to character and emotional changes in the movie or tv show.

This music composition program is aimed at people with a passion and vocation for music and film who are interested in learning how to create high-impact musical compositions capable of transmitting emotions that transcend the screen.
We are interested in musicians with diverse musical backgrounds not just people with composition degrees. The best digital media composers are usually ones with a creative production or music background. Music reading is not necessary, but we encourage non readers to begin the process.
Every student has their own unique background they bring to the program. You will be a part of a worldwide group of composers dedicated to learning and growing with you. We don’t want a cookie cutter approach to film scoring and digital media. Students in the program have diverse backgrounds for example: Pop Producers, Orchestration Majors, Sound Design Experts, Video Game Composers, Rock Producers, and even DJs.
Lets Face it the cream will rise to the top, but to work you will have to be DIFFERENT than everyone else. We focus on your core sound and want you to be the best version of you possible.
No matter what DAW you use, the techniques and workflow we teach will help you to not only create much more realistic sounding midi scores, but do it in much faster time. In the real world a composer is required often to do an entire episode every week. If you don’t have a firm handly on the technology and how harmony fits with emotion, you will have a difficult time keeping up. As a matter of fact your final project is scoring a real 30 minute episode. You will feel confident that when you land your first gig, you will do a great job.
